Welcome to the Ibaraki International Language Institute website! Since 1991, Ibaraki International Language Institute has provided professional language instruction. Since its opening, our school has instructed hundreds of students from around the globe, as well as local students here in the Ibaraki Prefecture.

What we Teach: We are an accredited Japanese language school, certified by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education. In addition to teaching Japanese, our native English speaking teachers instruct Japanese students in the English language.

Q: What type of English lessons do you teach?

A: At Ibaraki International Language Institute, we teach many different English courses. We offer children's classes, beginner's classes, intermediate classes, advanced classes, and many other specialized courses tailored to our student's needs. We specialize in providing native English speaker experience for our students.

Q: What kind of Japanese lessons do you teach?

A: Ibaraki International Language Institute offers many Japanese courses, classes, and short-term lessons. We teach a wide range of Japanese material from beginner to advanced. Q: Where are you located?

A: Ibaraki International Language Institute 茨城国際学院 is located in Mito City 水戸市, Ibaraki 茨城, Japan 日本. Our school is located 2 minutes from the Mito Station station 水戸駅, the largest station in Ibaraki Prefecture, if walking. Although Mito City is very beautiful and convenient, it is also surrounded by the beautiful nature typical of Ibaraki Prefecture 茨城県. Mito is the perfect size: smaller than tokyo (not too busy) but large enough to be bustling and entertaining, and in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery available in Japan. Q: Do I need a VISA to study abroad at your school?

A: Not necessarily. For most students who reside in Japan less than 90 days, only a passport is required. For students who will reside in Japan over 90 days, a student VISA is required. Very few countries require a visa for a less than 90 day stay in Japan. Check with your embassy for specific visa information, and see our study abroad page.

Q: After the March earthquake and tsunami, is it safe to study in Japan?

A: Yes. Although northern Japan was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami, Ibaraki was left relatively undamaged, especially the Mito City area. Ibaraki is a safe place to study, and is carefully monitored for any signs of potential threats to our students. We are fully prepared for any emergency, and students can feel confident that they are safe. We will be adding a link for daily radiation and earthquake information to our site in the near future for the convenience of our students.

Q: I want to study abroad. Where do I begin?

A: For study abroad, always begin with a study abroad advisor at your university if you are a university student. Many students wish to use financial aid from their university. In this case, a study abroad advisor will be needed. Your study abroad advisor can guide you through the process and will work with the school to enroll you and address any issues. If you are not a university student, you can still study abroad by applying to our school directly. Q: How do I pay tuition?

A: Ibaraki International Language Institute can accept tuition by bank transfer, or tuition can be mailed to our address on the contact page in the form of a money order or cashier's check.

Q: Where will I live?

A: Ibaraki International Language Institute can provide a temporary stay (one week) dormitory for a small fee. A: Of course! Ibaraki International Language Institute has classes available for any type of student. Our teachers are trained to instruct children of all ages, elementary and high school students, university students, adults, and anyone who is interested in learning Japanese or English. Our classes have custom courses designed for anyone interested in learning Japanese or English, and all students are accepted at our school.
